Lina Patel is a qualified British Canoeing Coach Level 3 and Coach Level 2 Kayak Mountain Training Single Pitch Instructor. She has over 20 years’ experience working with people from diverse background in the outdoors. Her Bed(hons) in Outdoor and Science Education started her career working with young people ‘at risk’ and lead to a Social Forestry Level 3 Award running her own “forest school for adults”
Her passion for canoeing developed alongside her relationship with canoeing doyen Ray Goodwin, together they have paddled far and wide from the Scottish Spey and French Ardèche to the Blood Vein deep in the Canadian wilderness. Since having their daughter, Maya Rose, the family have spent time paddling the UK and in 2017 completed a 10 day wilderness canoe expedition in Algonquin in Canada. This expedition has lead to Lina’s passion to help other families experience the joy and adventure of family canoeing and the development of her family friendly courses.
In addition to her outdoor work Lina has worked for Social Services providing training and support for families, held a directorship within a small charity and a senior management position at a local community centre. Her background demonstrates an ability to work with a diverse range of people and her courses are committed to inclusivity for all. In particular, Lina is committed to enabling more women and girls to embrace the outdoors and canoeing and recognises the need for women only courses to provide a safe and supportive environment to explore and develop their abilities.
